Federal prison officer in Porto Velho suffers gang attack

A federal criminal police officer who works at the Federal Penitentiary in Porto Velho (RO) suffered a shooting attack while walking on the street in the capital of Rondônia. The case took place on Monday (13) and was announced this Thursday (16) after the arrest of one of the perpetrators.

The unit houses leaders of criminal factions in Brazil and is one of five existing federal prisons.

Footage from street security cameras shows the security officer on the street when a white car passes by him and shoots. Nothing is taken from the victim, who runs to save himself.

The police then found the car used in the crime completely burned, which raised the possibility of an attack and ruled out robbery.

The Union of Federal Penitentiary Agents of Rondônia (Sindapef/Ro) released a note to CNN in which it says that the attack was ordered by a criminal faction and that the agent was followed.

“The attack suffered by the federal criminal police officer is not just an individual or isolated offense, but an affront to the Democratic Rule of Law and this country's own justice system”, says the entity.

After 11 hours of investigation by the Federal Police, the Integrated Force to Combat Organized Crime of Rondônia (FICCO/RO) caught one of those involved in the attack and also seized the vehicle used by the suspects. According to the PF, investigations continue to identify the others involved.
