Federal Revenue finds almost 1 ton of cocaine in coffee cargo at the port of Santos

The Federal Revenue Service intercepted 882 kilos of cocaine hidden in a coffee shipment at the port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, on Tuesday (2). According to the Revenue Service, it was the largest seizure of the year at the location.

The cargo, which was bound for Guinea, in West Africa, was held during routine customs surveillance and repression work carried out by customs teams.

The coffee was packed in 25 containers, while the cocaine was hidden in 20 raffia bags in one of them. Before the cargo landed in Africa, there would be a stop at the port of Antwerp, located in Belgium.

The distribution of more than 800 kilos of cocaine in 20 raffia bags located in one of the containers was intended to hinder the work of the inspection. However, sniffer dogs indicated the presence of the drug.

After detecting the cocaine, the Federal Police were called for an expert analysis.
