A release version of Fedora Linux 35 is now available for download. This is the first version to use the new name with the additional word “Linux”. The renaming is due to the fact that one word “Fedora” now refers to the entire community, developing not only the distribution. For example, in the hands of the project is the EPEL repository, also available for RHEL and CentOS, and documentation that may be useful for users of other distributions. The revision names (Fedora Workstation, Fedora Server, Fedora Silverblue, etc.) and IDs in the / etc / os-release file will remain the same.
GNOME 41
The standard desktop edition of Fedora Workstation 35 comes with a clean GNOME 41 environment. Two new applications have been added: Connections for working with remote desktops via RDP or VNC and Calls for making GSM calls.
The Application Center has changed the interface and added more information to the application cards. Power modes are added by default in Fedora Linux 35, toggling is available in the System Status menu.

“Options” contains new settings. In the Multitasking section, you can turn the hot corner on or off to bring up the Overview screen and dock windows to the edges. If you have a cellular modem, then the “Mobile network” section will be available with the choice of the preferred network type and mobile Internet control when in roaming.
Fedora Silverblue, но с KDE
A new Fedora Kinoite distribution is offered, similar to Fedora Silverblue, but shipped with a KDE environment instead of GNOME.

Fedora Silverblue and Fedora Kinoite are experimental editions with a focus on using Flatpak packages. The system is monolithic, the entire image is updated, access to the root directory is read-only. Similar is implemented in mobile systems and Endless OS.
Kiosk mode
The gnome-session-kiosk-session package is available in the repositories, which adds a session to the system to launch a preselected application in full screen mode. It uses only the Mutter window manager instead of the entire GNOME Shell and is less resource-consuming (19MB of memory versus 79MB for the GNOME Shell, according to Red Hat). Canonical is developing a similar solution in the form of an Ubuntu Frame shell built on Mir.

“Third party repositories”
A number of applications from Flathub will be available for installation through the “Application Center” without manually connecting to Flathub when the option “Third-party repositories” is enabled. The system will offer to enable it at the first start.

Now the list, which may be updated in the future, is limited to 7 applications:
- Bitwarden
- Discord
- Microsoft Teams
- Minecraft
- Postman
- Skype
- Zoom
Other changes
- Improved Wayland session support for proprietary NVIDIA drivers.
- The sha512crypt hashing algorithm has been replaced with yescrypt.
- The PipeWire Media Server now uses the WirePlumber audio session manager.
