In response to the severe drought affecting the region, the City Hall of Feira de Santana, the second largest city in Bahia, declared an Emergency Situation in several areas of the municipality.
The measure was published in the municipality’s Official Gazette, this Monday (14). The objective is to implement emergency actions to minimize damage and facilitate the recovery of affected areas.
According to City Hall, the decision was based on a technical opinion from the Municipal Protection and Civil Defense Coordination, which identified low rainfall levels, attributed to the La Niña climate phenomenon.
According to the document, the drought was classified as a level II disaster, according to the Ordinance of the Ministry of Regional Integration and Development.
Mayor Colbert Martins da Silva Filho (MDB) highlighted the need to mobilize all municipal bodies in a coordinated response. “We are taking all necessary measures to protect our population and minimize the damage caused by this drought,” he stated.
With the declaration of Emergency Situation, the municipality will be able to receive federal and state support.
In a note, Colbert highlighted that, in cases of emergency, the public administration can act quickly, without the need for bidding, to acquire goods and services essential to the safety and continuity of work.
The decree also allows entry into properties to provide assistance and the possible expropriation of areas at risk.
The City Hall points out that residents of impacted areas are being advised to report problems related to the drought to the authorities, so that response actions are effective and quick. According to municipal management, the situation will be continuously monitored.
