Felipe Moura Brazil: Reflection is key to preventing attacks on schools

“The student forwarded messages and photos of weapons to the other students via WhatsApp. Some parents are feeling intimidated and intimidated by such messages and photos.”

This report was in the threat report, recorded on February 28, by the former school of the 13-year-old individual who, a month later, on Monday (27), killed a teacher and injured four other people during an attack on knife at a state school in the west zone of São Paulo.

BO is just one of the elements that prompt the question: could the attack have been prevented?

There are several others. With the question “which of the serial killers [sic] would you be?”, the author had done a poll on the internet offering, as answer options, five ways to kill: “entering through the window with a knife or gun; dressed as a clown and attracting the attention of children/adolescents to then kill; he would only kill for revenge; Whatever for me; and would rape and kill afterwards”.

The publications made by the kid on Twitter exposed the premeditation of the attack, but the authorities only managed to gain access to the profile after the author was apprehended and his cell phone accessed, because the page was restricted to his friends.

“It will happen today, I’ve waited for this moment my whole life, I hope I get some kill [morte, em inglês] at least, my anxiety starts to kick in because of it. Anyway… wish me luck.”

In older posts, he already said he was “anxious”, commented on which glove he would use in the attack and displayed the mask with skull details, characteristic among members of cells predisposed to terrorism that operate on the deep web.

In his username, he carried the surname of the perpetrator of the massacre in Suzano (SP), in 2019. Not to mention the episodes of fights and even racist offenses at school.

The moment, of course, is one of pain and condolences, but reflecting on whether something could have been done by the police, schools and parents is essential to prevent further attacks on educational institutions in the country.
