Filippo Turetta, on Friday 25 October, enters the courtroom for the first time in which the trial for the murder of Giulia Cecchettin is being held, in which he is the only self-confessed accused. The 23-year-old leaves Verona prison for the first time where he has been since last November, when he was brought back from Germany, where he was arrested, to Italy. For the first time he should find himself in front of Gino Cecchettin, Giulia’s father who he killed on November 11, 2023, almost a year ago.
Turetta will be questioned and is expected to be the only verbal contributor to the hearing before the argument. He is accused ofmulti-aggravated voluntary homicide with concealment of a body, possession of weapons and kidnapping. He risks life imprisonment.
Filippo Turetta stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death just a few days after her graduation. They had broken up some time ago, but he did not give up and had even threatened to harm himself. He killed her on the evening of Saturday 11 November after they had spent part of the afternoon together at the Nave de Vero shopping center in Marghera looking for shoes for graduation and having dinner together.

During the interrogation the boy will be asked to reconstruct the evening of the crime, the first attack, the killing in a car park not far from the girl’s house, his escape with the body left in the Barcis lake area, but also to talk of his story with Giulia Cecchettin. There was controversy over his absence at the first hearing of the trial.
Gino Cecchettin will be in the courtroom with his lawyer Stefano Tigani. Giulia’s father joined the civil action. The interrogation may not end in a single hearing and there is another one already scheduled for Monday 28 October.
