Femicide in Veneto: Vanessa killed on her doorstep

Yet another feminicide in Veneto: around 12pm on Tuesday 19 December Vanessa Ballan, 27 years old, died on her doorstep after being hit several times with a knife in the hamlet of Spineda di Riese Pio Treviso. Her body was located at the entrance to her home and was found by her husband. Married since 2012, originally from Castelfranco, already the mother of a four-year-old child, Vanessa was pregnant with her second child.

Everything suggests that the woman opened the door to her killer: the alleged murderer would reside in Altivole, a municipality bordering Riese, and would be a person the couple knows. The husband, who was at home, was found next to the victim in a state of shock, but, immediately contacted by the Carabinieri, he managed to provide useful elements to the investigators.

The man was stopped by the Carabinieri during the night near his home and is now in the barracks.

Clerk in a local supermarket, the Eurospin of Riese Pio X, Vanessa lived with her husband Nicola in a small residential neighborhood with two-family houses.

The carabinieri arrived on site after being alerted by Suem 118. Investigations are underway to understand the dynamics of what happened and to find the murder weapon. The prosecutor on duty Michele Permunian, the medical examiner Antonello Cirnielli and Colonel Massimo Ribaudo, provincial commander of the Treviso carabinieri, arrived at the scene of the crime, in the hamlet of Spineda, in via Fornasette.

Vanessa’s friends and acquaintances, who arrived in front of the family home, said they were shocked. «They are very good people», they explain to Gazette«we still have the wound open Giulia Cecchettin and now we have to face this new tragedy.”

It was the statements of Vanessa’s husband that immediately put the investigators on the trail of a forty-one year old Kosovar, Bujar Fandaj, who in the past allegedly had a relationship with the woman which later ended. In October Vanessa Ballan would have filed a complaint for stalking towards Fandaj.
