Femicide of Giulia Cecchettin: the phone in Filippo Turetta’s car and the other points still to be clarified

A telephone was found in the black Gran Punto which will be transported from Halle to Venice on 10 December. It is a detail of no small importance to accurately reconstruct the events of that tragic November 11th in which Giulia Cecchettin she was killed by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta.

The student rebuilt in over 9 hours of interrogation the fundamental circumstances of that night and the following seven days of escape, but there are, according to the investigators, some important inconsistencies. They are mostly about premeditation. Because despite the statements of the 21-year-old from Torreglia, who confessed to Giulia’s murder, many elements must be evaluated.

Philip essentially stated: “I’m trying to reconstruct, I don’t know what happened in my head”, but at the same time he gave clear indications on the motive with a series of sentences that can essentially be summarized with “I loved her, I wanted her all for myself”. But he did not explain what two kitchen knives (one of which was found in Vigonovo and one in his car), some adhesive tape and some black bags were doing in his car. And why he had left the house with 300 euros in cash and perhaps an iPad (which he would have set as a navigator for the escape and with which he would have kept partially updated while on the run) which could still be inside the car.

On Sunday morning at 12 Filippo Turetta met his parents in the interview room of the Montorio prison. Nicola Turetta and Elisabetta Martini, who on Tuesday had not felt ready to face their son, after the extensive interrogation on Friday in which Filippo essentially admitted his responsibilities, agreed to see the boy. The interview lasted an hour. There was emotion, a hug, Filippo seems to have assured the family that he is ready to serve his sentence. “I did a terrible thing, I have to pay until the end.”

The girl’s funeral has been set for Tuesday 5 December in Padua.
