Femicides, boom of signatures for compulsory psychotherapy for those who are reported for dangerous behavior

While the chronicles continue to report of feminicides that seem to follow a now known scheme – threats, stalking, unheard complaints – civil society no longer wants to stay and watch. The tragic deaths of Ilaria Sula and Sara Campanella pushed over 22 thousand people to sign An online petition, launched on Change.org by Paolo Viscariello, to ask for the introduction of the Taken dependent on the part of the National Health System of Personlatsand for obsessive and dangerous behaviors.

“In 2025 it is no longer acceptable to attend announced violence,” reads the proposal, which takes the name of “Aurora Law”. The principle is simple: it is necessary to intervene before violence manifests itself, when there are already clear danger signals. “We cannot continue to count women – and also men – killed as if it were inevitable,” writes Viscariello. “Often there are obvious signals: threats, stalking, morbid obsessions, ignored complaints. Still, the company remains motionless until the blood is poured ».

The text of the petition, addressed to the government and Parliament, asks for the introduction of an early and structured intervention protocol, with Mandatory psychological paths of the minimum duration of six monthsagainst the national health system.

The process is divided into different stages, centered on an idea of active prevention of feminicides. The first step takes place upon receipt of a complaint For obsessive behaviors, threats or stalking: from there, the preventive intervention starts, which provides for the person taken by the person reported by a team made up of psychiatrists and psychologists. “This is not a punitive process, but a collective protection action,” underlines Viscariello. The path includes at least 13 psychological sessions In six months: an initial evaluation, and then one every two weeks. If during the course the subject is considered not dangerous, it will not undergo criminal consequences. “The only effect will have supported some psychological interviews: no irreparable damage, only precaution”, specifies the promoter.

The guiding principle is simple: better one more encounter with a psychologist than a tragedy from which we do not go back.

The proposal also deals with the topic of costs. Viscariello estimates about 10 thousand reports per yearof which approximately 5,000 will be required will require a complete path. The average cost for each cycle of 13 sessions, based on the values of the national health system (between 35 and 50 euros per session), is between 500 and 650 euros per person. In total, the total annual cost of the program would be around 3 million euros.

To make a comparison: the Italian state spends over 7 billion euros per year for the prison system. AND The social and economic cost of a single femicide, between justice, assistance to children and collateral damage, can exceed 500 thousand euros. “Also prevent only one tragedy per month repays the annual cost of the program “reads the document. “To offer care to those in danger and protection to those who report”, summarizes the promoter: “We do not wait for the dead to act”.
