Fernanda Montenegro pays homage to Fernando Torres: “the love of a lifetime”

Actress Fernanda Montenegro, 92, published a tribute to fellow actor and director Fernando Torres, to whom she was married for 56 years and who, this Sunday (14), would turn 94 years old.

“Fernando, we are a family, dear love of my life. Dear love of a lifetime. Eternal longings”, says the actress’s Instagram post.

Fernanda Montenegro had two children with Fernando Torres – filmmaker Cláudio Pinheiro Torres, 58, and actress Fernanda Torres, 56, as well.

Fernando died on September 4, 2008, at the age of 80, after suffering from pulmonary emphysema at his home in Rio de Janeiro.

Together with Montenegro, director Gianni Ratto and actors Sergio Britto and Italo Rossi, Torres founded the Teatro dos Sete company. He was the one who directed the group’s adaptation of “O Beijo no Asfalto”, text by Nelson Rodrigues.

Last month, the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL) elected Fernanda Montenegro as the entity’s newest immortal. The lack of competitors for the post, which had been vacant since March 2020, was pointed out by the media as a deference to the great lady of Brazilian cinema and dramaturgy.

“Fernanda Montenegro is one of the great icons of Brazilian culture. Engaged intellectual and sensitive reader of reality. His presence enriches the Academy’s deep ties to the performing arts. With it, so many luminous characters enter, which marked generations, past, present and future”, declared the president of ABL, Marco Lucchesi.
