The actress Fernanda Montenegro 95, published a text celebrating her daughter’s nominations, Fernanda Torres 59, and the film “I’m Still Here” to the Oscar 2025.
“I, Fernanda Montenegro, and Fernando Torres – wherever he is – are happy and fulfilled, in a state of Hallelujah, for the nominations of Fernanda Torres and Walter Salles for the important Oscar award. A cultural gain for Brazil. My mother’s heart in a state of grace”, wrote the actress on her Instagram profile.
The film directed by Walter Salles received three Oscar 2025 nominations: Best Film – making history as the first Brazilian feature film nominated in the main category –, Best International Film and Best Actress, for Fernanda Torres’ performance.
Torres is competing for the award 26 years after her mother was nominated in the same category, for her performance in “Central do Brasil” (1999), also directed by Walter Salles. The matriarch, however, did not take the prize home. On that occasion, Gwyneth Paltrow was the big winner for her performance in “Shakespeare in Love” (1998).
This year, Fernanda Torres competes against Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”), Karla Sofía Gascón (“Emilia Pérez”), Mikey Madison (“Anora”) and Demi Moore (“The Substance”).
THE ceremony of the 97th Academy Awards is scheduled for March 2 in Los Angeles, in the United States. See the full list of nominees.
