Fernanda Montenegro will give an extra reading of Simone de Beauvoir at Ibirapuera

Actress Fernanda Montenegro, 94, announced on Saturday night (20) that she will do an extra reading of Simone de Beauvoir’s text that she has been doing at Sesc 14 Bis in recent weeks.

The new presentation will be free and will take place in the auditorium of Ibirapuera Park, in the south of São Paulo, with live transmission to the external area, on August 18th, at 7 pm.

The actress announced the news in a live broadcast on social media. “São Paulo, I will be with you for another performance. I hope to see you all with a huge thank you,” she wrote.

The reading of the feminist work “The Farewell Ceremony” has been performed at Sesc 14 Bis since June 20 and tickets quickly sold out. In addition, hours before each performance, kilometer-long lines have been forming around the establishment with people trying to get one last chance to see Montenegro read.

Beauvoir narrates the work of the last decade of the life of the philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, with whom she had a relationship, leading to reflections on life and death.

The writer is widely recognized for her contributions to existentialism and the feminist movement in the 1980s.

“When reading Simone de Beauvoir on stage, we become aware of the freedom that this woman imposed on herself and proposed to all the generations that followed her,” said Montenegro.
