The actress Fernanda Torres 59, was left out of the SAG Awards which revealed its list of nominees this Wednesday (8). Recently, she took the Golden Globe in the Best Actress category for her performance in the film “I’m Still Here.”
THE 31st edition of the award happens in February 23 and is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the category, being recognized as an important nomination for the Oscar.
Initially, the announcement of the nominees was scheduled to take place in a ceremony format on the Netflix on YouTube. However, due to the fires in Los Angeles, the organization chose to cancel the event and publish the list directly on its official pages. Check out the full list of nominees.
What are Fernanda Torres’ chances at the Oscars?
With her victory at the Golden Globes, the actress became the first Brazilian to achieve this feat. Now, expectations for the Oscars are even higher, but Does the victory have any impact on Hollywood’s main awards show?
The two awards are organized by distinct entities and have different voting mechanisms . At the Golden Globes, the nominees and winners are chosen by a group of around 300 foreign journalists.
The Oscars define their finalists and winners through votes from members of the Academy. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made up of industry professionals, such as actors, directors, screenwriters, costume designers, editors, among others.
Furthermore, there are other variants, such as number of members who participate in the process of choosing nominees and winners in addition to the division by gender.
Unlike the Golden Globes, which separates the awards by genre — Drama and Comedy or Musical —, the Oscar encompasses everything in the same categories, and all, except for Best Film, have only five nominees.
However, despite there being no direct relationship between the awards, the Golden Globes are often seen as a barometer for the Oscars. In the last 10 years, eight of the winning actresses at the Golden Globes they also won the statuette from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
