After winning a Golden Globe for his performance in “I’m Still Here” , Fernanda Torres 59, gained attention from the public and international press.
In an interview with Variety, one of the biggest pop culture outlets in the world, alongside Selton Mello, 52, her partner in the film, she said that I didn’t expect to be chosen by director Walter Salles to give life to Eunice Paiva .
“Of course I’m a drama actress, but I became well known for two great comedies,” said Torres. “I think I did too much comedy to make Walter think of me.”
In fact, Fernanda Torres was not the director’s first choice for the role, but the script ended up in her hands anyway. Salles asked her friend to take a look at the material, even before imagining her as the protagonist.
“My mom was already in the movie, and he said he wanted my opinion,” she said. “It was an incredible script, but I never thought he would invite me. Which is good, because there was no tension between us.”
Although the film portrays a dramatic and real story, Fernanda Torres says that it was a pleasure to work alongside her colleagues and says that Salles created an “almost sacred” environment on set.
“Walter knows that the actor is the heart of a scene, so he is very respectful and helpful,” he said. “He created a world, not a set. That house we filmed in is a character — it smells like home, it feels like home.”
