In the Freedom of Opinion section this Monday (14), commentator Fernando Molica analyzed the trip of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to Russia, amid tensions with Ukraine.
Last Saturday (12), the President of the Republic reaffirmed that he will travel to Moscow on Monday, despite the scale of growing tensions between Russians and Ukrainians. THE CNNBolsonaro said that the agenda for the meeting he will have with Vladimir Putin will be diversified, and that Brazil has no problems with conflicts.
For Molica, the realization of Bolsonaro’s trip to Russia is already a problem, in addition to happening at a time that is not ideal.
“The president should have rushed to diplomacy. Itamaraty is an established diplomacy school. Find a diplomatic solution, because it’s a problem, the chance to [a viagem] no problem is very low. The trip itself, the fact that President Jair Bolsonaro is leaving today for Russia is already a problem.”
The commentator assessed that the trip of the President of the Republic is closely linked to Bolsonaro’s relationship problems with other countries throughout his term.
“Today, Bolsonaro has a hard time going anywhere. He did campaign for Trump, it took time to recognize Biden’s victory. So if he goes to the United States, he’s not going to be well received,” he pointed out.
“He fought with France, he got into several controversies, without the slightest sense, he created a problem with China. So Bolsonaro is not welcome in good part countries, including the countries of democracy Western, Christian.”
“So he ends up using to autocrats such as Vladimir Putin – right now, about to start a possible war. Imagine if he [Bolsonaro] it is there in Russia and the war begins. This is unlikely to happen, but it can happen, so why flag at this point?”
The Freedom of Opinion had the participation of Fernando Molica and Boris Casoy. The painting airs daily on CNN.
