‘Fever’ of meetings in Maximou, with a view to the Ukrainian-Russian border

By Dimitris Gatsios

“Fever” of internal meetings at the Maximos Palace. The crisis on the Ukrainian-Russian border and the echo of a possible war, which is growing by the hour, keep the West, the European Union and our country on a red alert. Concerns about a conflict that will shake the Greek economy, through the further deepening of the energy crisis, are pervasive and, mainly… reflected in the field of gas supply. The discussions in the government staff are continuous, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis convening an extraordinary meeting yesterday in Herodes Atticus, during which all possible scenarios were discussed in detail. A meeting was attended by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, the Ministers of State, George Gerapetritis and Akis Skertsos, the Government Spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou, the Deputy Government Spokesman, Aristotle Officer , the National Security Advisor, Thanos Dokos, the President and CEO of PPC, George Stassis, the CEO of DEPA, Konstantinos Xifaras, the President of RAE, Thanos Dagoumas and the Professor of Energy Economics and Business Research,

According to government officials, in the aftermath of the meeting held at the Maximos Palace, there is no question of security for the country’s energy efficiency. However, discussions within the government are expected to continue, but also to intensify in the next twenty-four hours, in order to avoid gaps, since the Russian Federation provides 35% to 40% of Greece’s natural gas reserves. Preparing να second plans for dealing with a new crisis, the focus is, as expected, on the effects of a wave of accuracy that will directly affect the budget of Greek households and businesses. The impact of price increases is already evident in the daily lives of citizens, with the Maximos Palace, through Giannis Oikonomou, sending messages of continued support, without, however, questioning the fiscal balance. “We have a very strong reinforcement policy to curb electricity increases. Beyond that, the Government, very measured and studied, in extremely vulnerable groups, will plan, possibly, targeted interventions that will catch on. At every level, our every step must be very careful. “We must not mitigate the effects of the increases. We must not jeopardize our fiscal policy, the implementation of the Budget, the dynamics of the country’s development in an international environment, which, as you can see, is both unstable and volatile,” the government spokesman said. , during yesterday’s press briefing.

In Athens, however, there is a diplomatic fever, a few hours before the summit of the “27” leaders of the European Union, during which the stormy developments on the Ukrainian-Russian border are expected to be discussed. Kyriakos Mitsotakis participated in a leaders’ teleconference, chaired by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, during which the need for coordination of the European Union member states and better preparation in case of escalation of the crisis was stressed. At the same time, the need to maintain European unity and the depletion of all diplomatic means and channels of communication in order to avoid escalation was highlighted, with the leaders noting that an aggressive action by Russia would have serious consequences at great cost. “Our country is in line with its allies and partners in the Ukrainian crisis. At the same time, it keeps open the channels of communication with all parties, with the aim of contributing to the peaceful settlement of the existing differences. In full coordination with “Our European partners, but by keeping all other channels of communication open, we are doing what is right for the interests of the country and its people, hoping for a peaceful settlement. We insist on hoping for a peaceful settlement,” is the message.
