Fever on the anti-Erdogan front: Davutoglu meets with Kilicdaroglu and Aksener

The party of the future (Gelecek Partisi), of the former Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu is in discussions that will determine whether he will eventually join the National Alliance of Turkey, which consists of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the Good Party (İ The Bliss Party (SP) and the Democratic Party (DP). Davutoglu’s party suggested to Kemal Kilicdaroglu and Meral Aksener that the alliance be redesigned and that a “high-level” name change be made.

The Party of the Future was founded in response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2019 by Ahmet Davutoglu, a former foreign minister and prime minister. To date, the Party of the Future has not joined the opposition coalition formed after the 2018 elections.

In the latest poll, the National Alliance is on par with the ruling People’s Alliance, made up of the AKP and the supranationalist National Movement Party (MHP), led by Gray Wolves leader Devlet Bahceli.

Now, Davutoglu has met with both İYİ President Meral Aksener and CHP President Kemal Kilicmtaroglu. Although no statement was made after either meeting, party officials said party representatives discussed issues facing Turkey, the positions of opposition parties, relations between them and the structure of the alliance. Davutoglu told Aksener that the coalition must adopt a higher-level plan and approach in order for the Party of the Future to join it.

“The alliance that will be formed can not remain just an election-oriented alliance. There are very important responsibilities ahead, such as the post-election process, the policies to be implemented, the appointment of executives, the transition to the parliamentary system and the organization. of the first elections to be held after them, party officials said.

The party proposed the formation of an “executive council” that would oversee the transition from a presidential system to a parliamentary system and be composed of representatives of all coalition parties. This “dashboard” would be bound by certain protocols and could respond quickly in times of crisis.

The Party of the Future further stated that the work for the transition to a new, parliamentary system should begin now, before the elections scheduled for June 2023.

Davutoglu told Haber Global TV in an interview that his party would not join an existing alliance, but would rather be the “founder” of a new alliance, which for many is bad, as it would bring more division to the struggling opposition. to “throw” Erdogan. “We will not join any existing alliance. The existing alliance structures will change and different political equations will emerge. I believe that there will be developments in the National Alliance,” he said.

The leaders of the CHP and İYİ reportedly did not immediately reject the proposals of the Party of the Future. The party leaders will continue to meet in the coming days.
