Fifteen arrests in ski hotel fire that killed 78

Turkey has arrested 15 people as part of an investigation into a fire that broke out at a ski resort hotel in the Bolu Mountains, killing 78 people and injuring dozens more. The tragedy prompted calls for accountability and reform, and independent experts have said the Grand Kartal Hotel, in Kartalkaya, western Turkey, lacked basic fire safety measures. Yesterday, the country’s president, Tayyip Erdogan, said that Turkish justice is working to punish all those responsible for the incident. The hotel management has expressed full willingness to cooperate. Today Turkey’s state news agency Anadolu reported that the owner, management and 12 other people were arrested as part of the investigation. According to the same source, legal proceedings are continuing for the deputy mayor of Bolou province and the head of the local fire service, while six other people have been released under certain conditions.
