Fighting racism is a matter of hope, says Paula Lima

This Saturday (20), Brazil celebrates Black Consciousness Day and the importance of affirmative dates for minorities. In an interview with CNN, singer and songwriter Paula Lima spoke about the fight against racism in the country.

For Paula, Black Consciousness Day is a day to unite efforts in the fight against racism. “I have to think about a society free from racism, it is a matter of hope to continue fighting for a transformation of the collective. We have to be aware that we are fine when everyone is fine”.

The singer spoke about the importance of affirmative issues for black people in society.

“Everyone ends up reflecting on human rights and racial issues. Data, reports and solutions for a better world end up being concentrated on that day, we have to talk about equality, inclusion and affirmative action”.

Paula stated that the fight against racism is a search for a better society. “When we talk about historic repair, privileged people are very scared and put themselves in a defense situation. We have to think that we [população negra] we have to go around five hundred more than one white person. We need the black conscience every day”, he said.

The singer drew attention to the daily challenges faced by the black population. “The ideal is that we all have the same opportunities and that we can go out everywhere, that we really remember these extra turns that black people have yet to take.”

“It is very important that we have black people in strategic positions and management positions so that she can look at that place as a mirror. We want to have the opportunity”, he said.
