Fiji authorities today demanded that a super-yacht belonging to a Russian oligarch be banned at the request of the United States as part of sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
Expert websites have found that there is a connection between this yacht and the Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, who is subject to sanctions by the USA and the European Union.
The Fiji Attorney General has filed a request with the Supreme Court for Amadea, which anchored in Lautoka (west) last week without being given the green light by customs authorities, to be stopped.
Under Fiji law, any ship wishing to dock in Fiji must first obtain permits from the Ministries of Health, Trade and Transport, as well as the Immigration Service.
According to the prosecutor, the yacht “can not leave the territorial waters of Fiji” as long as its seizure orders are awaited by local and US authorities.
Police are seeking to determine whether customs and immigration regulations were violated or whether the yacht may have been used in drug, arms or money laundering cases.
The Amadea is valued at $ 325 million, according to superyachtfan.com, which specializes in luxury yachts.
Many websites cite Suleiman Kerimov as the owner of Amadea, but this information can not be independently confirmed.
