The film “Death on the Nile”adaptation of Kenneth Branagh for the romance of Agatha Christiewas banned in two Middle Eastern countries due to the actress’ relationship Gal Gadot with Israel’s military service.
According to the website “Deadline”, the production premiered in other countries in the region this weekend, but it should not be released in Lebanon or Kuwait because of Gadot’s background, who served in the Israeli army for two years.
Military service is mandatory for all young people in Israel over the age of eighteen.
This is not the first time that the actress’s nationality has generated impasses with Lebanon due to the armed conflict with Israel. In 2017, the blockbuster “Wonder Woman”, starring the Israeli, was banned from Lebanese cinemas and also in Qatar.
According to the Daily Mail, the newspaper “Al-Qabas”, from Kuwait, reported that the ban in the country was a response to demonstrations on social media. Users in the country criticized the actress’ positioning in defense of the Israeli army and in an attack on the Palestinian group Hamas during the 2014 war in Gaza.
According to the newspaper, an official Kuwaiti source said it would not allow the screening of a film starring “a former soldier of the Zionist armed occupation.”
