Filmmaker Sues Disney For ‘Criminal Copying’ Of His Movie – Seeks At Least 10 Billion In Damages

A director is taking Disney to court, seeking at least $10 billion in damages because – based on the lawsuit – the company copied his film. Buck Woodall filed a lawsuit over the animated films ‘Moana’ and ‘Moana 2’, claiming they were based on the script he created for his film ‘Bucky the Wave Warrior’ known as ‘Bucky’. According to the lawsuit, Woodall worked at Mandeville Films in 2003 alongside Jenny Marchick, who is now head of film development for DreamWorks Animation. At that time the studio closed the first big deal with Disney and he was working on a concept based on Polynesian culture. In discussions with Marchick he revealed his idea and she encouraged him to complete it. In 2004 he made the first copyright application and in the following years he sent his partner the complete script, a pilot and the trailer of the film.
