Finance Minister needs to be appointed to stabilize market, says Sergio Vale

In an interview with CNN economist Sergio Vale assessed that the appointment of a name at the head of the Ministry of Finance is urgent to “stabilize markets” and guide the alignment of the fiscal policy of the next government.

“We need to have that name soon so that it can take the first steps towards what will be the fiscal policy from next year. A point of difficulty in this whole story is that this PEC for the PEC of the Explosion is being discussed without the interference of the transition team itself, which was allocated by the president-elect shortly after the election”, evaluated Vale to the CNN Vision this Thursday (17).

“This puts a lot of noise between what will be approved as a fiscal measure and how it will be accepted by the next minister. The more and more that we delay this decision, the more difficult it will be for the future minister, who will have to deal with a PEC that he did not change. This is very complicated. You have to be this quick to choose that name right away so that we can better deal with the PEC.”

Vale also highlighted that the choice of a name for the main portfolio of the economy, and the consequent indication of what the design of the future fiscal rule will be, is a way of stabilizing the markets.

“Lula likes to form a middle ground team, between right and left. It is difficult to imagine that we will have two ministers, in Finance and in Planning, who are equally orthodox or heterodox. The whole point is that this name needs to be nominated soon, ideally by the end of the month.”
