The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on Monday that people in at least 70 countries are losing treatment due to cuts in global funding.
“Many ministers have told me that sudden and drastic cuts in bilateral aid are causing serious disturbances in their countries and endangering the health of millions of people. In at least 70 nations, patients are losing treatments, health units have closed, health professionals have lost their jobs and people face an increase in health spending,” Tedros Adhanom said in the 78th World Health Assembly, Geneva, Switzerland.
The organization currently faces a $ 600 million break in its annual budget and 21% cuts over the next two years.

As the US is preparing to leave the organization, China is about to become the largest state rate supplier – one of WHO’s main sources of financing, along with donations.
