The US Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Agency said cryptocurrencies have become increasingly used by a variety of terrorists to finance their operations. We are talking, among other things, about the Hamas group.

Representatives of the department emphasized that Hamas militants “rely on obtaining funds in various ways, including through virtual assets.” FinCEN insists that any companies working with digital assets are required to provide reports of suspicious transactions to US authorities. First of all, we are talking about companies working with clients from America.

“As part of our response to emerging threats, the US Treasury is taking all necessary steps, including warning foreign partners, about measures to counter Hamas’s ability to collect and use funds from sources around the world,” US officials assure.

American security forces do not provide exact data on the volumes of funds received by Palestinian militants and other groups unfriendly to the United States.

Earlier, American media claimed that accounts on the Russian Garantex exchange became one of the sources of funds for Hamas militants. However, representatives of the site denied these claims.
