The reconstruction of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, which was devastated by a fire in 2019, came at a high price.

The estimated cost was 700 million euros (approximately R$4.5 billion at current prices), according to data from Rebuilding Notre Dame de Paris, a public body led by Philippe Jost, responsible for the restoration work on one of the greatest historical landmarks. of the world.

In total, 846 million euros (around R$5.4 billion at current prices) were raised through 340,000 donors from 150 countries.

Jost has previously said that any donated money that is not spent on reconstruction will likely be used to “benefit the cathedral” in other ways.

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, visited the church this Friday (29). He made one last visit before reopening and, during a speech, he thanked the workers involved in the project.

The formal reopening of Notre-Dame will take place on December 7th and the first public mass will be held the following day.
