Find out how to find accredited dismantlers in SP

The São Paulo State Traffic Department (Detran-SP) carried out more than 2,200 vehicle dismantling inspections from January 2023 to September 2024 . The inspection of illegal vehicle establishments in 2024 recorded a 96.4% increase in the number of actions compared to the previous year.

Detran-SP, in partnership with civil and military police, civil guard and environmental surveillance, almost doubled the actions that resulted in the fines of several establishments, which are subject to penalties such as fines and closure.

In a single operation in the east of the capital, more than 8,400 pieces were seized, highlighting the large volume of this clandestine market. The initiative aims to combat the trade in stolen vehicle parts and ensure consumer safety.

Detran-SP warns of criminal origin

One of Detran-SP’s main concerns is the sale of parts from stolen or stolen vehicles, the so-called “blood parts”. These pieces fuel the illegal market and may be linked to violent crimes. The agency warns consumers to check the origin of the pieces before purchasing them.

To ensure safety and legality when purchasing automotive parts, Detran-SP advises consumers to consult the list of accredited establishments. On the Detran-SP website, it is possible to check whether the establishment has authorization to carry out dismantling services. Find out more.

The invoice is an essential document to prove the origin of the item and guarantee the consumer’s rights. In case of suspected irregularity, the consumer can report it to Hotline 181, via the website www.webdenuncia.org.br or through the Detran-SP portal.

Task force to combat traffic crimes

In December 2023, the Government of São Paulo created a new division specializing in the investigation of traffic-related crimes and fraud. The unit, in partnership with Detran-SP, aims to combat corruption, money laundering and other illegal activities in the sector.

Joint actions between Detran-SP and security forces have already resulted in several seizures of parts and vehicles and the arrest of offenders. In 2024, the Division of Investigations into Theft, Theft and Receiving of Vehicles and Cargo (Divecar) seized more than 19 thousand vehicle parts.
