Pope Francis’ funeral will be held this Saturday (26) in St. Peter’s Square, according to a decision of Roman Catholic cardinals on Tuesday (22). The solemn ceremony should bring together leaders from around the world.

The funeral will start at 10am, local time, 5am, in Brasília time.

The Vatican released on Tuesday (21) photographs of Francisco dressed in his robes and placed in a wooden coffin in the chapel of Santa Marta residence, where he lived during the 12 years of papacy. Swiss guards are standing on both sides of the coffin.

The body will be taken to St. Peter’s Basilica, adjacent, on the morning of Wednesday (23), at 9am (local time), in a procession led by cardinals, allowing the faithful to pay the last honors to the first Latin American Pope.

All cardinals in Rome were summoned to a meeting on Tuesday (22) to decide on the sequence of events in the coming days and revise the daily management of the church during the election of a new Pope.
