The singer and composer Liam Payne 31, died this Wednesday (16), after falling from the third floor of a hotel in the Palermo neighborhood, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He became known for being part of the boyband One Direction between the years 2010 and 2016.
Born on August 29, 1993, he had several health problems and, only after three months of life, they discovered that one of his kidneys was malfunctioning. Before entering the music business, Payne dreamed of becoming an Olympic runner, but abandoned the idea when he discovered his talent at school.
In 2008, he auditioned for the TV show, The X Factor and was eliminated because they considered him too young. Two years later, he returned to the program and was suggested to join the Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan in a band, the One Direction .
During the competition, they stood out and won third place. In 2011, they released the group’s first studio album, “Up All Night”, which has hits such as “What’s Make You Beautiful”, “One Thing” and “Gotta Be You”.
In total, the group released five albums and, in 2014, One Direction became the first group to have their first four albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200. In May of the same year, they came to Brazil, to three presentations, in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
After the group’s end in 2016, Liam began his solo career and immersed himself in several musical partnerships with other artists in the industry, such as Rita Ora and Cheat Codes. His first and only album, “LP1”, was released in 2019, while his last song, titled “Teardrops”, was released in March of this year.
The singer never came to Brazil with a solo career, only with the boyband, in 2014. In 2023, he had a show scheduled in São Paulo at The Town festival, but had to cancel due to health problems.
In May last year, he revealed that he had been sober for more than a hundred days and that he “felt amazing” since he stopped drinking alcohol.
In an interview with iFL TV, the former member of One Direction commented on the positive moment he was experiencing at the time.
“I feel really good. Now I’m sober, over 100 days, and I feel amazing. Fan support has been really good,” he said.
Earlier this month, the singer had reunited with his Niall Horan, who was also part of One Direction. The voice of “Strip That Down” attended a performance of “The Show Live On Tour”, which has a schedule in Latin America and was in Argentina at the time.
Liam leaves behind a 5 year old son, Bear Payne the result of his relationship with the singer Cheryl Cole . The two separated in 2018. Throughout his life, he was involved in other relationships and was recently dating model Kate Cassidy, 37.
