Finland is preparing additional training for wartime troops

Additional training will be provided to the 280,000-strong reserve force in Finland’s wartime, as the government looks to strengthen its defenses.

In particular, according to Defense Minister Andy Kaikonen, according to Bloomberg, the Russian invasion of Ukraine intensified the need for additional training, given that the planned program was not observed during the pandemic.

As the Finnish minister added, the strengthening of education entails “significant” additional costs.

It is noted that the military forces of 5.5 million inhabitants of Finland, include total reserves of about 900,000 citizens.

At the same time, the Nordic country will also increase its arms spending, speeding up supplies before delivery times are extended and prices rise due to strong demand across Europe, Kaikonen said.

For her part, Prime Minister Sana Marin, in her position on the debate on the new multiannual spending framework, stressed that “Finland does not want to be in a position where it is not sufficiently prepared.”

She added that the competent ministers are expected to announce the exact spending plans tomorrow, Wednesday.
