Finland does not intend to join NATO, Finnish Foreign Minister Peka Haavisto said on Friday, amid escalating tensions between neighboring Russia and Ukraine.
“Finland is not discussing its possible membership with NATO, nor does it have such a plan for the future … our security policy remains unchanged,” Haavisto told reporters during a teleconference after the 27-nation summit. Foreign Affairs of the European Union in France, as broadcast by Reuters.
On Thursday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken hinted in an interview with MSNBC that Finland now wants to join NATO, amid escalating tensions between the West and Russia.
