Finland wins last gold at Beijing Winter Olympics

Finland won gold in the men’s ice hockey final on Sunday, beating the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) 2-1. This is the country’s first men’s ice hockey gold medal at the Winter Olympics. , and also the last of the Beijing 2022 edition.

The ROC failed to defend the Olympic title won in Pyeongchang 2018, when the team competed as Olympic Athletes of Russia. They took the silver.

ROC’s team scored first in the first period of the game, but Finland equalized with a goal in the second period, sending the game into the third period tied at 1-1.

Finnish Hannes Bjorninen scored the winning goal for his team with just 31 seconds left, and the Finns held the score to win the game.

Finland has made regular podium appearances, returning home with an ice hockey medal in five of the previous seven Games, but this is the first time the team has reached the top step.

Earlier, Slovakia beat Sweden and took bronze.
