Finland’s PM in Sweden, standoff with Turkey over NATO top of agenda in Stockholm

The prime ministers of the candidates for membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Sweden and Finland will have talks today at Stockholm. Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin will be the first head of government to be welcomed by her Swedish counterpart Ulf Christerson after he took office in the autumn.

Their discussion is expected to focus on the stalled integration process of the two Nordic states in the NATO. Finland and Sweden they submitted applications in May 2022, but Turkey has been blocking its completion for months. After the talks Ms Marin and Mr Christerson will hold a joint press conference in the afternoon. German Economy Minister Robert Hambeck is also expected in Stockholm today.

Among other things, he will have talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Eba Bush, reports APE-MPE.

It is recalled that the Scandinavian country assumed the rotating presidency of the European Council at the beginning of the year.
