Fiocruz: Covid-19 represents 59.6% of cases of severe respiratory syndrome in the country

The new edition of the InfoGripe Bulletin, released by Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) this Wednesday (1st), points to the growth of Covid-19 cases in long and short-term trends – last six and three weeks.

According to the document, the estimate is 7,200 cases between May 22 and 28, about 59.6% of cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) with viral identification. In the previous edition, coronavirus cases accounted for 48% of positive tests.

Among the contaminations that progressed to death, 91.1% of those who had viral identification tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.

The update also indicates the maintenance of the predominance of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) among children aged 0 to 4 years. RSV is a major cause of respiratory tract and lung infections, as well as contributing to pneumonia and acute bronchiolitis. In the other age groups, Covid-19 maintains the predominance of cases with laboratory identification.

Influenza A and B cases, which cause influenza, represent 0.4% and 25.1% of SARS cases, respectively.

“Laboratory data and data by age group maintain the alert that the current growth scenario is due to an increase in Covid-19 cases. In Rio Grande do Sul, in particular, an increase has also been observed in positive cases for influenza in different age groups”, highlights the researcher and coordinator of InfoGripe, Marcelo Gomes.

In the country, 19 of the 26 states, in addition to the Federal District, show signs of growth in the long-term trend: Acre, Alagoas, Amazonas, Amapá, Bahia, Ceará, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná , Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rondônia, Roraima, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo.

Among the capitals, 19 followed the trend of new cases. They are: Aracaju (SE), Belém (PA), Belo Horizonte (MG), Boa Vista (RR), Brasília (DF), Campo Grande (MS), Curitiba (PR), Fortaleza (CE), Goiânia (GO) , João Pessoa (PB), Macapá (AP), Manaus (AM), Natal (RN) Porto Alegre (RS), Porto Velho (RO), Rio Branco (AC), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Salvador (BA) and São Paulo (SP).
