Data from the Infogripe Bulletin, released this Wednesday (22), referring to Epidemiological Week 24 (June 12 to 18, 2022), suggest a possible interruption in the growth trend of cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and the formation of plateau.
Since the second half of April, SARS cases remained high. According to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), approximately 81% of the occurrences correspond to Covid-19, according to laboratory analysis, being predominant in the adult population.
The study is based on data entered in the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System (Sivep-Gripe) until June 20.
Researcher Marcelo Gomes, coordinator of InfoGripe, warns that the situation should be interpreted with caution and reassessed in the coming weeks for confirmation.
“Although they still show signs of growth in the long-term trend, the states of the Southeast and South regions show signs of a possible interruption in this increase in cases, with plateau formation in the first weeks of June. As we had the long holiday last week, it may have some impact on records, so the caution and need to wait for the next updates to confirm the scenario “, he explains.
In the last four epidemiological weeks, the prevalence among cases with a positive result for respiratory viruses was 3.2% Influenza A, 0.2% Influenza B, 9.9% respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and 80.6% Sars. -CoV-2 (Covid-19). Among the deaths, the presence of these same viruses among the positives was 1.8% Influenza A, 0.3% Influenza B, 2.0% respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and 94% Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19). 19).
In children and adolescents, a sign of decline is observed between the 0-4 and 5-11 age groups. Laboratory data indicate that, in the group aged 0 to 4 years, cases continue to be fundamentally associated with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), although there is also a relevant presence of Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19), rhinovirus and metapneumovirus.
Thirteen of the 27 federative units show signs of growth in the long-term trend (last 6 weeks): AC, AP, CE, DF, GO, MG, MT, PB, RJ, RN, RO, SC and SP. In the states of the Southeast and South regions, there are indications of a possible interruption in the growth trend in recent weeks, which should be reassessed in the next updates for confirmation.
Laboratory data and by age group show that the growth in May and April was due to an increase in Covid-19 cases. Only in Rio Grande do Sul was a significant increase also observed in positive cases for Influenza (flu), albeit at relatively low values and lower than those associated with Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19).
Among the capitals, 16 of the 27 show signs of growth in the long-term trend (last 6 weeks): Belo Horizonte (MG), pilot plan and surroundings in BrasÃlia (DF), Cuiabá (MT), Fortaleza (CE), Goiânia ( GO), João Pessoa (PB), Macapá (AP), Natal (RN) Porto Alegre (RS), Porto Velho (RO), Rio Branco (AC), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Salvador (BA), São LuÃs (MA), São Paulo (SP) and Teresina (PI).
