Fiocruz points to growth in flu cases in four states and DF

An increase in cases of influenza A, the virus that causes the flu common, it is registered in the states of Bahia, Goiás, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and also in the Federal District. The alert was issued by Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in the new InfoGripe bulletin, released on Monday (10), which monitors patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in the country.

The recent growth, according to the survey, is concentrated in the public between 0 and 11 years old, probably motivated by the flu and also by respiratory problems commonly seen in early spring.

About influenza , there is a predominance of the H3N2 subtype, which caused outbreaks in the country between November and December last year. The bulletin data refer to the period between September 25 and October 1.

“This recent trend serves as a warning to other states in the country due to the importance of both in the interstate flow of passengers, especially for large urban centers through the national air network”, said InfoGripe coordinator Marcelo Gomes.

Despite the advance of influenza, cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome in the country still show a predominance of Covid-19 in the last four weeks, with 41.6%. Influenza A represents 21.4% of patients, 1.2% are influenza B and 11.2% are respiratory syncytial virus.

Regarding the behavior of the SRAG in the 27 federative units, only Amapá, Rio de Janeiro, Roraima and São Paulo show moderate growth in the long-term trend. While in SP, the advance occurs only among children and adolescents, in RJ, it is also observed in some groups from 60 years old.
