The new InfoGripe Bulletin, released by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) this Wednesday (17), pointed out that Brazil is at the lowest level of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The analysis refers to the period between the 7th and 13th of August.
The study shows that among SARS cases, the Covid-19 Sars-CoV-2 virus remains predominant, especially in the adult population. It is also the one that causes the most deaths: 96.5% of SARS deaths occurred because of Covid-19; 0.7% were due to influenza A; 0.2% from influenza B, and 0.2% from syncytial virus.
Of the 26 states and the Federal District, only Roraima shows signs of growth in the long-term trend. While Acre and Amapá show stability. The other regions show a decline in the long-term trend.
Regarding the capitals, the survey pointed out that three of the 27 present signs of growth in the long term trend: Belém, Boa Vista and Vitória. In the others, there is a predominance of decline, with nine capitals showing stability in this indicator.
Of the 27 capitals, Cuiabá, Palmas and São Luís were the ones that managed to reduce the rates of Covid-19 in the analyzed period.
On the other hand, the survey highlights that, despite the general sign of decline or stabilization, the recent increase in the age group from 0 to 11 years in several states in the Northeast, Southeast, South and Midwest calls attention.
“In proportional terms, this growth is even more expressive in the age group from 5 to 11 years old. As it is restricted to the last few weeks, it is still not possible to clearly identify the virus responsible for this increase, although Sars-CoV-2 continues to be predominant in all age groups”, explains researcher Marcelo Gomes, coordinator of InfoGripe.
