Fiocruz records best epidemiological scenario since the beginning of the pandemic

Brazil is at the lowest level of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the latest InfoGripe bulletin, released this Friday (30) by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) .

According to the foundation, the best epidemiological scenario in the country extends from the beginning of August and remains until September 24, the period analyzed by the survey. The downward trend in infections by the virus happens both for the short and long term in Brazil, highlighted Fiocruz.

Of the 27 federative units, only Amapá and the Federal District show a moderate sign of growth in long-term infections – starting at six weeks.

In terms of age, the study shows that there has been no significant change in the distribution of coronavirus cases by age in recent months. The bulletin mentions that hospitalizations “follow a relatively stable age profile”.

Overall, the data continue to point to the broad predominance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, especially in the elderly population, despite continuing to fall in cases. Children aged 0 to 4 years remain as the second group with the highest number of weekly hospitalizations in Brazil, representing between 5 and 10% of hospitalizations.

Despite the continued decline in cases associated with Covid-19, the influenza A virus showed an increase among Brazilians, especially among the populations of São Paulo and the Federal District. In September, according to Fiocruz, influenza A represents 15% of all viral contamination.

“This trend serves as a warning due to the importance of both in the interstate flow of passengers, especially for large urban centers through the national air network”, highlighted researcher Marcelo Gomes, from Fiocruz.
