THE Zoo of Cincinnati in Ohio celebrates the birth of a hippopotamus who is the brother of Fiona, who became a global “star” when he was born prematurely in 2017according to AP.
“The little one weighs twice as much as Fiona and is already walkingsaid Cincinnati Zoo’s director of animal care, Christina Gorsuch.
Staff at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden discovered that the mother, 23-year-old Bibi, was pregnant around April Fools’ Day. The event was a surprise because, as reported by APE-MPE, was taking contraceptives.
“Bibi and the baby, who does not yet have a name, will spend the next two weeks away from zoo visitors,” Gorsuch said.
Bibi’s first baby, Fiona, weighed just 13kg when she was born prematurely and could not walk. She now weighs 907 kilograms, said the zoo, which has seen a surge in visitors and views on social media since Fiona’s birth.
