Fiorello: the (intelligent) reaction to Piergiorgio Giacovazzo's off-air response is a lesson for everyone

Of the aura of the powerful and untouchable man Fiorello he never knew what to do with it. It is true that he is one of the few television faces who can afford things that others would not achieve even in their wildest dreams, but it is also true that Fiorello, unlike many colleagueshas never made an effort to appear, proving instead to be reluctant to return due to the lack of a strong idea to propose. Long live Rai2 it became his gym, his very personal good morning to Italians who, in addition to having revitalized a television slot that has been clinically dead for some time – that of 7 in the morning -, has also managed to find its register and its figure. A figure that travels through Fiorello's irreverent comments, the guests who come to visit him and gags and gimmicks like the one in the duet with his daughter Angelica on Father's Day. A duet which, as even the walls know, was the subject of a joke by the Tg2 journalist Piergiorgio Giacovazzo who, believing he was not on air, commented on the possible professional future of Fiorello's daughter by saying that, after this appearance, the girl “will have twelve broadcasts”.

The joke, went viral online because now there is always someone ready to take a screenshot, it sparked the reaction by Rai CEO Roberto Sergio, who was quick to issue a press release in which he announced that Giacovazzo had been subjected to a “disciplinary measure”. Leaving aside the fact that in the past Rai has often shrugged its shoulders in the face of much more serious exits – such as Iva Zanicchi who, during an episode of Dancing with the Starscalled Selvaggia Lucarelli a “slut” without receiving any type of warning or formal warning but, on the contrary, tripling his appearances in television lounges in the afternoon as if nothing had happened -, the real problem to solve was understanding how Fiorello had taken that off-air response: whether as a personal attack on his daughter and, as such, deserving of punishment, or as a forgivable mistake. Well, Fiorello, on this occasion, demonstrated that he is a professional because, instead of throwing fuel on the fire, he elegantly chose to laugh about what happened and, above all, to reduce what many newspapers have exaggerated.

In fact, during a video posted on his Instagram profile, Fiorello let his followers know that he had written to Giacovazzo and that he had clarified what needed to be clarifiedwhile not hiding the fact that, at the time, I was upset by those words. He also said that the disciplinary measure seemed excessive to him and which, according to him, would have had no effect, adding that, if anyone recorded his off-air recordings, they would end up in prison. Not happy, Fiorello chose to reiterate his position (in his way) also live on Long live Rai2, who set up a fake off-air program during which the showman joked about the artistic future of Amadeus' son and the programs he would like to host. The management of this matter makes us understand two things: that laughter is always the best way to defuse a controversy and that, when in doubt, when you work in television and have a microphone attached to your jacket, it is always better to keep things to yourself to avoid unpleasant episodes like this.
