Fire affects more than 100 vehicles in a yard in the Metropolitan Region of SP

More than 100 used vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, were affected by a fire inside a private yard, in Suzano, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, this Monday (23). At least 30 firefighters from Suzano, Itaquaquecetuba and Mogi das Cruzes were mobilized to put out the flames.

The suspicion is that the fire was set to clear land and the flames spread. No one was injured and the total damage was not disclosed.

The fire started around 12:30 pm, in an area of ​​the vehicle yard. The flames spread quickly through the dry grass and reached cars.

Neighboring residents reported hearing explosions, probably from tanks with leftover fuel. The Suzano Fire Department sent its entire contingent to the scene.

In addition to the firefighters from Mogi das Cruzes, mobilized in support, a team from Itaquaquecetuba that was on another call also went to help fight the flames. The vehicles’ engine oil ended up leaking and fueling the flames. The tires and debris contributed to the formation of a column of black smoke that could be seen from several parts of the city.

Until 4 p.m., firefighters were responding to the scene. Despite the size of the fire, there were no casualties. Most of the vehicles would be destined for scrap.

Suzano city hall reported that the fire happened in a private warehouse that is not used, nor has any connection with the municipal administration. Teams from the Department of Transport and Urban Mobility went to the location and closed access to the courtyard so that the Fire Department’s work could be carried out safely.

At the request of the state corporation, the Department of Maintenance and Urban Services sent two water trucks and a backhoe to help fight the fire and isolate neighboring areas.

The Civil Police were called and are investigating the operating conditions of the yard, which is located in a private area. “The administration continues to monitor the work being carried out and provide the necessary support, including with the Civil Defense of the Citizen Security Secretariat,” he said in a statement.

Fire hits wooden sheet factory in the interior of SP

Another fire hit Eucatex, a wood fiber sheet factory, also this Monday, in Salto, in the interior of São Paulo. According to the Fire Department, the flames started in a hydraulic oil pipeline that supplies a boiler and were controlled after two hours of fighting the fire. In a statement, the company stated that there were no victims.

Teams from the Salto and Itu Fire Departments were mobilized to fight the flames. The fire started around 12:30 pm and at 2:30 pm, with the flames extinguished, the recovery work began. The columns of thick smoke rising from the factory premises, close to the central region of Salto, caught the attention of residents. Firefighters said they prevented the flames from reaching other facilities at the factory.

In a statement, Eucatex said that the fire was successfully controlled and left no victims: “We are grateful for the quick response of our entire internal team and external support, which together acted efficiently to control the situation and avoid further damage.”

The company said it will report in due course on the recovery process of the affected area and any impact on operations.
