Fire at a resort in the interior of São Paulo leaves at least 12 injured

A fire hit the Mavda Resort, in the city of Cesário Lange, in the interior of São Paulo, on Monday night (21). According to the state fire department, 12 people were rescued, five with minor injuries and seven with serious injuries, including smoke inhalation and burns.

The number of victims, however, may be higher since other individuals were treated before the arrival of the vehicles. Fighting the flames lasted about four hours.

It is not yet known what caused the fire, but the Civil Police, which is investigating the case, reported that a show was taking place in the venue’s event space, the Dragon Bar, when the flames started and quickly spread.

In a statement, the Resort’s press office informed that it keeps its operating license up to date, and that the fire brigade evacuated the place while waiting for COBOM to arrive. They are also providing the necessary support for those affected, who claim to have been 16 people.

The victims were taken to four different hospitals, in the cities of Cesário Lange, Tatuí and Sorocaba. By phone, one of them reported that all had 3rd and 4th degree burns. At least nine people remain hospitalized.
