Fire breaks out in Buenos Aires building, killing at least five

A fire in a residential building in the city of Buenos Aires left five dead and another 25 injured, this Thursday (23), according to Alberto Crescenti, director of the Emergency Medical Assistance System (SAME).

According to information released by the city’s Ministry of Security, the building that caught fire is located at 1022 Ecuador Street, in the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires.

In total, 30 people were treated, of which 19 were transferred to different health centers in the Argentine capital.

The Ministry of Security of the City of Buenos Aires detailed that the fire started around 5 am in an apartment on the seventh floor of the 14-story building.

According to the information, three deceased minors were located on the 7th floor of the building and, although they were taken out alive by the rescue forces, they arrived dead at the Gutiérrez hospital, where they were transferred.

“The five deceased people, three minors and two adult women, were rescued by the Municipal Firefighters alive and unconscious, given the tasks that were carried out in first aid. These people were handed over to the medical team. Unfortunately, the deaths arrived later in the respective hospitals,” said Deputy Commander Pablo Giardina of the City Fire Department.

The fire was brought under control around 8 am (Brasilia time) and about 25 ambulances were sent to the scene.
