A retired captain from the Military Fire Department of the Federal District, identified as Ronair Santana Borba, aged 59, was arrested last Tuesday (17) on suspicion of sexually abusing his daughter and grandchildren aged 9 and 10. The arrest occurred following an investigation by the 24th Police Station of Ceilândia, which received reports of abuse against the child.
The complaint was made by the child’s grandmother in November this year. She went to the police after her 9-year-old grandson reported the abuse. According to the child, her grandfather touched her inappropriately and performed sexual acts. At the time, the victim was 5 years old. The child’s mother, when informed about the abuse, revealed that she had been a victim of the same crimes when she was a child, being abused for 21 years.
The Civil Police carried out interviews with several family members and also gave a special statement from the child, which, according to the corporation, corroborated the information.
The abuse took place in the perpetrator’s own home, the man was separated from his ex-wife, who is the victims’ mother and grandmother, since 2011, but the grandfather always lived with the family.
As determined by CNN the police had already been investigating the man since April 2023 for rape of a vulnerable person in relation to his daughter, who was abused for more than 2 decades, and his 10-year-old granddaughter, but he was not arrested.
The December arrest was motivated by the crime of rape of a vulnerable person against his 9-year-old grandson. As investigations continue, bringing together all rape cases, the perpetrator could face up to 60 years in prison.
The delegate responsible for the case, Fábio Farias, highlighted the seriousness of the crimes and the emotional consequences that the victims will carry throughout their lives. “It is an extremely delicate case, in which the victims, even with the arrest of the perpetrator, will carry the marks of abuse for the rest of their lives”, he lamented.
Farias emphasized the importance of psychological and emotional support for children’s recovery, in addition to the need to raise awareness in society about the importance of reporting cases of sexual abuse. “Most of the perpetrators are part of the victim’s social circle, so it is difficult to suspect and believe that abuse is being committed”, he warned.
In a statement, the Military Fire Department of the Federal District informed that it is monitoring the case and will investigate the conduct of the soldier involved. The corporation reiterated its commitment to the ethics and integrity of its members.
