One person was killed and ten others were injured in what became known as the Cold War of a large forest fire that broke out on Wednesday (28/7) in southern Turkey, as the Minister of Agriculture Bekir Pakdemirli stated, as the efforts to save and extinguish the fire continue.

High temperatures and strong winds contributed to its spread fire around the town of Manavgat, located 75 km east of Antalya, and in neighboring villages.

According to the minister, the 82-year-old man was found dead during the evacuation of the area of Kezbebeleni, which is located 16 kilometers northeast of Manavgat, while ten people are stranded at the neighboring Oympinar dam.

“Rescue teams are on their way to locate them,” he said, according to the Athens News Agency.

Authorities evacuated 18 villages and districts in Antalya, while 16 more villages were evacuated in the neighboring provinces of Adana and Mersin, the minister added.

Television footage showed charred homes and residents fleeing for safety as helicopters backed by helicopters battled the blaze.
