Seven apartments were destroyed and two hundred residents were evacuated as a precaution, after the fire broke out in the hills of the Massarosa region, outside the city of Lucca in central Italy.
The fire front is extensive and four helicopters and four Cannonades are involved in the extinguishing operations, with supporting forces of the Italian Fire Service which were sent from Milan and Mantua. The highway a few hundred meters away from the flames remains closed.
At the same time, a large fire broke out in the Carso mountain range, outside Trieste, and Italian and Slovenian firefighters, as well as numerous forces of the Italian Civil Protection, participated in the extinguishing operations throughout the night.
In Monfalcone, just outside Trieste, the smoke, until the early hours of the morning, caused breathing problems for some residents. And in this case, all road and rail connections in the area around the fire front have been cut.
