Fire in Rome, the Ponte dell’Industria on fire: no injuries, but a lot of fear

The it stinks of gas, the shouts of passers-by, a glow more and more intense. It was a scary night in Rome, in the neighborhood Ostiense, where around 11 pm the Bridge of Industry, better known as “Iron Bridge»: In a few minutes the flames have engulfed structure, which in any case held up thanks to the timely arrival of the fire. Only some parts have collapsed into the Tiber and – according to the first reconstructions – fortunately there would be no injured people.

Thousands of area residents stayed for hours without electric light, while the authorities have hijacked traffic and kept at a distance i many onlookers arrived on the spot. In the morning, after the fire is extinguished, it stays the smell of smoke and the skeleton of a symbolic work of the capital, built between 1862 and 1863 by ato a company bega to join the railway line of Civitavecchia at the central station of Terms: 131 meters, completely in metal, with three beam lights.

“Now I can only say that my heart tightens in seeing a piece of history reduced like this, ”says the mayor Virginia Raggi, rushed to the spot. “He’s already been summoned for the next few hours the municipal committee to see the services, gas and electricity. From the first images, considering that one of the side walkways in steel intended for pedestrian transit and dedicated to the passage of cables and pipes of service, it is likely that it all originated from a short circuit or a gas leak. The hypothesis that the flames have risen from the shacks along the Tiber, but it is not clear what it could have fed in such a short time a stake of such proportions.
