The situation in the Arabic Sea is extremely critical with the Indian Coast Guard trying to tow a burning cargo ship with Singapore’s flag away from the coast of Kerala in order to prevent “a possible ecological disaster”. India’s Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday that the situation remains critical and efforts are being made to place a towing line to remove the ship from the coastline. The MV Wan Hai 503, which was wrapped in flames on Monday, carries 2,128 tonnes of fuel and hundreds of containers – including a dangerous load -, which has caused serious environmental concerns. Although visible flames have declined significantly thanks to extinguishing operations, the fire is still raging on the internal decks and near the fuel tanks, the ministry said.
