The man killed himself opened fire inside the campus in East Lansing, Michigan, killing three people and injuring five others, some of whom are in critical condition.
Chris Roseman, acting deputy chief of university police at MSU, said the gunman opened fire at two locations, Berkey Hall and the Michigan State University Union building. MSU police later tweeted that three deaths had been confirmed, in addition to the injured.
A tragic component of this situation is the attacks with the use of weapons inside educational institutions in the country, which are a real scourge. About 14 months ago, in the same state, at Oxford High School in Oakland County, a 15-year-old opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun, killing four of his classmates, wounding six others and a faculty member.
Authorities said the teenage gunman, who pleaded not guilty at his trial, used a gun his parents had given him for Christmas despite signs he was mentally disturbed. Both parents face manslaughter charges.
