Firearms raffles: Seven arrested for illegal raffles in SP

The São Paulo Civil Police arrested seven suspects, this Monday (20), in an operation against possession of illegal weapons in São Bernardo do Campo and in Diadema, in ABC Paulista. In all, eight weapons were seized including one rifle with shaved number .

Investigations began after the arrest of suspects involved in a cargo theft. The police discovered a network of people who buy, sell and hold raffles for illegal firearms .

According to the state’s Public Security Secretariat (SSP), agents from the 2nd Police District of the São Bernardo do Campo Section carried out 36 search and seizure warrants and one arrest warrant in the Botujuru, Taquacetuba and Rudge Ramos neighborhoods, in the municipality, and in the Eldorado and Vila Conceição neighborhoods, in Diadema.

The agents seized a total of three shotguns, two pistols, two revolvers and a rifle, as well as parts of a homemade weapon. Still according to the SSP, all the weapons had their numbers shaved off.

The police also collected equipment used in firearms such as holsters, magazines, cartridges and ammunition of different calibers.

In total, 158 civil police officers from the districts and specialists from the São Bernardo do Campo Section participated in the action.

The case was registered as compliance with search and seizure and temporary arrest warrants, location and seizure of an object and illegal possession or possession of a firearm for restricted use in the 2nd Police District of São Bernardo do Campo.

The SSP also informed that investigations are continuing to identify other suspects involved in the scheme.
